Your teen’s old armoires can be converted into a useful computer work center with the help of some oak boards, drawer slides and shelf supports. The specific configurations and measurements will depend on the type of armoires
Choose a sturdy armoire with an opening at the top that's wide enough for your computer monitor, and a lower section with an opening large enough to hold the CPU. The keyboard and monitor shelves will slide out separately for convenience. Here is how you can make computer desks using armoires.
Measure a spot on the armoire 30 inches up from the floor. Transfer this measurement to the inside of the armoire. Draw a level line from the front to the back of the armoire. Use the line as a guide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to fasten one part of the drawer slide to the left interior side of the armoire. Repeat for the right side of the armoire.
Measure and mark a spot 12 inches below the interior of the armoire. Find the center point of the armoire at this position. Draw a line from the back to the center point of the armoire. Use the line as a guide and attach the shelf supports. Leave a one-inch gap between the shelf and the back of the armoire for wires. Insert an oak board equal to the width and half the depth of the armoire. Follow the shelf-support instructions.
Drill a hole that is at least two inches in diameter through the back of the top section of the armoire for wires and cables. Drill another hole through the back of the bottom section of the armoire. Attach the drawer slides to oak boards equal to the width and depth of the armoire. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to connect the pieces. Place your computer monitor on the middle shelf. Place the keyboard and mouse on the lower shelf. Place speakers on the top shelf. Place the CPU and any peripherals on the lowest section of the armoire.
Once you have converted your teen’s old armoire into a computer desk, your teen will need a new armoire. When selecting furniture for your teen’s room, it is essential to pay attention to furniture sale events, as they provide great deals. Usually, a furniture sale event is centered around major holidays. Look out for furniture sale events like Presidents Day Sale, Labor Day Sales, Black Friday Deals and Cyber Monday Deals.
